MONTREAL is AMAZING.
As most of you know, I went to Montreal a few weeks ago, and it was, as I mentioned, AMAZING. Everything about this place is unique in the best way and it makes you feel like you’ve transported outside of Canada to another country. From the shopping, to the food, to the people I feel like you just can’t go wrong!
I feel like Montreal sometimes gets a bad wrap for one reason or another and I can’t help but love the place! So what if everything is in a different language! It’s an opportunity to learn, and if you go to the right places, the people are very friendly and want to help!
So, I decided to share with you some of the best things I think there are to do in Montreal, so you can take a trip and have as good a time as I did!
1. THE SHOPPING!
Well… it is wealthy wednesday so I feel that this should be the first thing.
I don’t know if I’m a great bargain hunter, or if bargains just fall in my lap but I got almost $2000 worth of stuff for UNDER $200 in about 3 hours of shopping. To be fair, I mostly shopped at Banana Republic, The Bay and Forever XXI but I found the sale prices to be amazingly cheap compared to Toronto sales! Like:
This $310 jacket from Banana Republic for $19!!!!!! (I bought 2)
This “Chocolate Icing Makes Me Run Faster” Shirt for 2 for $25 (from the Bay)
This whole outfit. (Shirt from The Bay. Skirt and necklace from Forever XXI)
All the stuff below: A Headband, 2 Necklaces, 2 pairs of earrings, 1 bracelet, 2 pairs of shoes, a pair of tights, 2 shirts, 2 winter jackets, a skirt and a belt for $190!!!! Basically a whole new wardrobe.
2. THE FOOD!
I’m not going to say that I had better food here than I normally do in New York, but it was definitely on par. Montreal is known for having almost as many restaurants as New York City per capita and you basically can’t walk anywhere without smelling something delicious.
The first place I would recommend is a place called La Cartet. This place hands down was the first place everyone recommended for brunch. The food was amazing, they have prepped food in case you’re in a rush and it has brunch 7 days a week.
This next picture is from a beautiful bakery we came across called “Maison Christian Faire“. They had the most amazing Macaroons, Pastry Options and Breakfast Ideas I’ve ever seen. (I got the Steak Tartar “sandwich” that came with a sunny side up egg on top. To DIE for):
Montreal seems to really have food down to a delicious science and everywhere we went was amazing. The last place I’ll show you is a place called Decca 77. We had a 6 course meal one night that included some amazing things that again, I’ve never seen anywhere (and some staples). I’ve never been so full and so happy in my life with:
This melted cheese over mushrooms:
This perfectly cook steak:
This amazing lemon cream shrimp dish:
AND THIS FLAN they made especially for me because I couldn’t have either of the two desserts they brought out:
3. THE AMAZING DRINKS!
Oh. did I mention that that 6 course meal also came with wine pairings? So I always had too much wine in front of me (note the 3 glasses below).
No matter where we went, we found ourselves with amazingly beautiful and delicious cocktails that we couldn’t resist!
4. THE W HOTEL!
Now, this might not be your first choice. Some people might like to stay somewhere more in old montreal, and I totally get that. I had a tough time deciding between the two, and I finally choose the W without any regret! The staff were overly friendly, the rooms were amazing and they had 3 separate bars that were packed the first night we showed up! I really liked the open bathroom concept. Very romantic with the bathtub open if you go with a significant other (and don’t worry. The toilet is in it’s own room)
Plus they had “Bliss” products, which if you don’t use, you should
5. The PEOPLE
No matter where we went, people were super friendly! (Which to be fair, I did not expect since we don’t speak french.) Everyone wanted to help us find the best places to go.
We became friends with the bartenders at the W:
And these guys were so friendly, they wanted me to take a random picture of them on my iphone.. (Who are you?):
AND as an added bonus, Macs Milk in Montreal is this:
So if you’re looking for a great place to go for a long weekend or just a getaway that’s close enough to home but feels like it’s across the sea, try Montreal and these places for a guaranteed great time!
Until next time
