It’s Christmas! YAY!
And what better day to have a Wealthy Wednesday. Not only are there so many new inventions and ads going on for what to buy, but it’s also a time of year for giving and for being thankful for what you have.
Unfortunately, not everyone is able to afford fancy things, and sometimes people get the wrong idea about what Christmas is really supposed to be about.
So instead of talking about a cool new expensive thing you can buy your loved ones, I decided to give a list of the 10 little things I love the most about Christmas that cost very little but still make me very happy and hopefully will make you happy too.
1. Seeing my parents.
My mom essentially lives in Florida over the winter and my dad flies back and forth for work, so I don’t get to see them very much when winter comes. I read an article about “27 things you learn in your 20’s” on buzzfeed and I totally agree. I actually love hanging out with my parents now. If you’re not there yet, I’m sure you will be. If you never think you will be, at least be thankful that they brought you into the world and spend time with people you really love.
Also – My parents let me do this so….
Unfortunately youtube takes the sound out, so if you want to see it with music (and I really suggest you do) go HERE
2. The look on someones face when you bought them something they really wanted
I’m not talking about a really expensive gift because you’re trying to impress someone. I’m talking about something like the purposely mismatched socks that my boyfriend’s mom got me because she knows I never like to match my socks. There is something WAY better about buying something for someone that says “I really get you”, then opening a gift you really wanted.
3. Hilarious Christmas Cards or Pictures
Jibjab has some of the funniest christmas ecards ever, but I’m not talking just Jib Jab. I’m talking about unintentially funny, like these.
But Also JibJab.
4. Red Wine Nights With My Girlfriends
It’s rare for me to have a lot of time to spare. The holidays actually give me a chance to see my best friends and do our favourite thing, drink wine. Enough said.
5. Holiday Movies
I love curling up with a cup of tea to watch a Holiday movie. Home Alone, The Grinch, Miracle on 34th street (the original). It doesn’t matter what your taste in holiday movies is, you are bound to have a favourite or two and I look forward to watching them every year!
It doesn’t matter what I’m baking or if it turns out, I love baking holiday treats! There is something awesome about being able to be in the kitchen and do something productive without burning down the house. Again, with my mothers supervision of course (except this year she actually blew up the stove before the muffins baked. Unfortunately I did not get a picture.)
7. Christmas Lights
(at 00:50 it gets great)
8. Time off work
Everyone seems to kind of “shut down” during the holidays. Not that all jobs do, but if you’re lucky enough to have work off during the holidays, really appreciate it. Even if you do have to spend it with some family that you don’t like, or you have to bare the cold weather. Don’t complain and just appreciate the fact that some people are working there asses off on christmas day and don’t get to “drink and be merry.”
9. Getting Really Unique Gifts
My favourite gifts today were a “more merry please” bell that my mom got me so that my boyfriend will bring me alcohol whenever I’m out or need a pick me up. Also – “poo-pourri”. My mother thinks she’s soooooo funny.
Merry Christmas Everyone! xoxo
