Confidence is sexy.
To me, a person displays their sex appeal in their demeanour and the way they carry themselves, and if they carry themselves with confidence, then they are one sexy human being.
One year ago, I threw myself into a situation where I was forced to be confident; I took a writing workshop guided by the legendary writer, groupie, clothing designer, and musician, Pamela Des Barres, along with seventeen other beautiful women.
Entering the workshop, I knew no one and was suddenly asked to write down my feelings about a variety of different topics — topics I had never even discussed with my closest friends. There was no room to be shy as the women were listening to and taking in my every word. It was the most terrifying and wonderful experience.
As I was reading aloud my first story of the night to the group, I was reminded of a game I used to play when I was younger – the one where you stand up high on a stage and fall backwards off the platform into a sea of arms waiting to catch you and protect you from crashing onto the hard floor. It was this sense of vulnerability that I was feeling so profoundly this night.
Going into this workshop, one of my greatest fears was public speaking. My voice shook as I read my writing, but I put myself into this situation for one reason: to gain the confidence to be able to open myself to people and be able to speak in front of large groups with ease.
After the first workshop, I began hanging out with the other ladies in the workshop more and more. We would host our own writing nights, go out on the town together, and share our thoughts via our own special “Miss P’s Toronto Dolls” Facebook page. We continue to be in touch to this day.
For $130.00, I made eighteen new friends, conquered my fear of public speaking, and gained the confidence to openly tell the world my stories.
Pamela is set to be back in Toronto November 19th – 20th for another workshop and she will be hosting a Meet and Greet at the Drake hotel on November 19th at 5 PM. Miss Des Barres also hosts writing workshops around the U.S. as well, so be sure to check out www.pameladesbarres.net for the workshop nearest you!
