Hello all you Smart Snobs out there,
Today I wanted to share a few tips and tricks I’ve used in my life over the past month to help me stay motivated. This isn’t a “drink water, eat healthy” tip list. It’s more of a way to motivate yourself to stick to it and improve your life.
1. Use post-its.
I have them in my bathroom, my make-up table and on my desktop to remind me, not only to do things, but also to make sure I remember to smile, laugh, and love who I am. It really makes for a bright day when you have a reminder of how great you are staring you in the face! You can’t help but smile 🙂
2. Make a Checklist.
I made a checklist that works really well for me. You can print it and use it daily, or you can just use it as a mental checklist and save some paper. It’s really easy to make in Word or you can just use mine.
3. Read Motivational Posts or books:
4. Writing down goals is very important but so is writing down accomplishments.
This is in my checklist, but I think it needs a bit of explanation. If you only ever write down your goals, you’ll never feel like you’ve done anything with your life. You’ll always be striving without ever feeling accomplished. So, I am an advocate for writing down something you’ve achieved, be it big or small, before writing down your goal for the next day. There is no use writing down your goals if when you accomplish them, you don’t have the right to brag about them too! (even if it’s just to yourself)
5. Organize your life the way it suits you best.
Everyone says things that work best for them i.e. “Work out in the morning, and you’ll feel better throughout the day.” Well. I hate to break it to you, but if I wake up in the morning and I don’t check my email to make sure there is nothing pending, make sure my blog is running smoothly, get a coffee in me, and feel like I’ve accomplished enough to justify a break to work out, I will NOT enjoy my work out. Schedule your day the way it works for you, because if you follow someone else’s routine, you probably won’t get everything done the way you want, and by the end of the day you either won’t have accomplished everything, or you won’t feel good while you’re doing it. If you need that coffee first, have it. If you need to work out before you really can get any work done, then wake up early and do it. It’s all about what works for you, and once you find that perfect set-up, you not only will be excited to start your day, but you’ll feel like that glass of wine at 8 pm (or whatever you do to wind down) is well deserved.
6. Finally – Do what you love and SMILE because people notice when you are genuinely happy.
I remember when I first moved to Toronto and I had no friends, I was working one job I hated and one job I loved. I went to an event for the job I loved and I met some people and made some friends. One person in particular I became really close with, and no matter where I went or what I was doing in this job or with this person, I was smiling because I loved what I was doing and who I was with. I can’t tell you how many people not only noticed, but made a point of saying how they loved being around me because I was always happy! My other job however, I was never in a genuinely BAD mood, and I thought I was a pretty good actress, but no one ever mentioned how they loved being around me and how I was always smiling.
When people notice that you’re a happy person, that you don’t let the small stuff get to you, and that you just genuinely are happy, they naturally want to be around you. Not only that, but they want to know your secret! Was I 100% happy all the time? No. Of course not! Who is? But I made sure that if I went out, I was doing something I wanted to do, and I was going to be happy doing it. Don’t waste your life on things that you don’t want to do, and don’t waste your time with people who don’t make you happy. That’s the only way people will really notice, because your smile won’t be forced, and your attitude will be contagious!
Happy Monday! Hope you guys have a great week!
