Monday Funday: DIY Wall Decor
You know that amazing feeling when you get home from work and realize you don’t have any obligations for the rest of the night?
Well, that’s how I felt today at around 6 p.m. And it was magical.
Trust me: this feeling does not come around often, and because it doesn’t come around often, I really treasure it.
So as I walked through my door and collapsed onto my bed, a wave of euphoria came over me and I felt as though the world was my oyster (for the next five hours at least). With this newly-found energy, I decided to take on a project that I’ve been longing to do for the past five months: creating DIY wall decor.
I first came across this DIY project on an awesome blog called Mr.Kate. Truth be told, I would use some different colours and organize these stripes a little differently the next time around. But hey, now I can say that I actually painted a piece of artwork myself that’s now hanging on my wall. That factor alone makes me pretty proud of myself. 🙂
And you know what the best part of this project is? All you need is some paint, a canvas, some paper towel and a spoon.
That’s right. I said a spoon. You don’t need a paintbrush; you need a spoon.
So once you have your paint, canvas, paper towel and your handy-dandy spoon, just squeeze a line of paint across the canvas and tilt the spoon side to side as you drag it across the paint. This creates a cloud-like rippling effect.
The paper towel comes in when you need to clean your spoon in between using two different colours.
Be sure to leave some space between the colours in the first layer of lines. Once you’ve finished laying down the paint, feel free to use a hair dryer to speed up the drying time.
Once the paint is dry, add the second layer of lines in the white space.
After that, wait for it to dry and you’re done! If that’s not the easiest DIY project you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is.
Happy Monday Funday, and try not to get as much paint on your paints as I got on mine.
