KEEP YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION – Save Money Edition
This year, I made a bunch of resolutions, as I’m sure everyone else did as well. As a way to keep my resolutions, and also help you keep yours, I am going to write an article for each of them and tips on how to keep them.
This is a GREAT way to get money back on groceries and it’s FREE. It’s an app that just gives you money back for buying groceries and toiletries. Each week you get different list of things (including ALCOHOL), that you can get money back from. This is my absolute favourite app.
2. One Week Rule.
This is a good one that I find works very well. If you see something you like but don’t need, wait for 7 days to buy it. If you decide you still HAVE to have it then, then go back and buy it. 9 times out of 10, you won’t want to go back to get it and you’ve saved that money!
3. Water for Every Drink Rule
This one helps save money, and a hangover. When you go out drinking, sometimes it’s hard to stick to a budget. You either end up staying out much later than you wanted, or you end up drinking faster than you anticipated. Every time you get a drink, get a water as well. This will end up taking you 2x as long to drink and effectively save you half the money you would have spent. It also is great for keeping away that pesky hangover.
4. Plan Meals
This is a big one because you can plan your meals based on what is on sale, and keep left overs for lunches. The amount of money you spend on groceries that you throw out is something that should not be taken lightly. Instead of buying whatever you feel like once you get to the grocery store, buy things that you’ve already pre-planned. You’ll be pleasantly surprised
5. Finally – Budget
The dreaded word that everyone hates to actually do. Unfortunately, having a written out budget is the best way to know where your money is going, so no you’re not confused as to where that extra $100 went that you swore you were going to put away but ended up spending. So find that friend who loves to budget, and get them to help you write one up. You can google simple budgets as well and you’ll find hundreds of layouts.
So there you have it! 5 easy ways to stick to your “Save Money” Resolution!
Until next time
