Rise and shine, Snobs!
Did you wake up this morning wanting to throw on your running shoes?
Well… I did.
Although it might seem like it, I’m not telling you this to rub it in your face. Trust me. I haven’t woken up with the feeling of actually wanting to work out in a really long time. In fact, I’ve been lacking motivation to do anything physically active over the past few months.
But that all ended when I came across the Nike+ Running App and it’s “Challenge” feature.
Now if you’re already familiar with this app, then you can just enjoy this reminder of how unbelievably awesome it is.
And if you’re new to it, then I have the best news: this app will make you never want to pass up a running opportunity again, especially if you have a competitive streak.
Why do I think it works so well? Well, it’s not because it tracks your run’s distance, pace, time, and burnt calories. It’s not because it connects to your phone’s music and lets you know when you’ve completed each kilometer. It’s not because it works equally as well for running on a treadmill as it does for running outdoors.
It’s because of the amazing Challenge feature, which basically allows you to instigate or accept challenges between you and other runners with the app.
As you can see on the right, the Challenge feature allows you to compete with multiple people at once, which just makes it way more intense and Hunger Games-ish. To start a challenge, you just give it a name, lay out the terms (i.e. ____ distance in ____ days), invite participants, and then wait and see how each other does day by day.
And since I refuse to lose, I run as much as I need to in order to successfully complete each challenge. This app is genius! As long as I continue to feel like I’m not allowed to let myself fail, I HAVE to run!
My boyfriend tells me that there are other fitness apps that use your real life friends as motivation. I came across a site that lists eight of them, and if you’ve tried any of them, let me know how they are!
I’ve also been informed of an app that uses simulated zombie attacks to motivate you to run. After a quick Google search, I discovered it’s called Zombies, Run! I don’t know about you, but that’s too much for me to handle. It’s just gone too far. It’s crossed the line that separates “you better run, or else your friend is going to catch up to you” and “you better run, or else a zombie is going to tear you to pieces”. No thank you.
Oh and before I forget, the Nike+ Running App is completely free and available on iPhone and Android. 🙂
Stay fit. Stay Fabulous. xo
