Alright alright. Get your head out of the gutter.
I’m talking exercise balls, and all the wonderful things we can do with them to tone your abs.
Meet Jess. You probably already know her because she has been writing for SmartSnobs for over a year now.
What you may not know is Jess has the abs of a gymnast (keep in mind she is SITTING in that picture). This is because she is one. And she’s been working out her abs since she was 7. Which means if you want her abs, you probably need to be doing more than just sit-ups to hit your snooze button.
Fortunately for you she was willing to show you how to do some of these ab workouts while I videotaped her, because I do not have the abs of a gymnast and subsequently did not want to be videotaped butchering workouts while you watched in disapproval.
Now, I’m not a videographer or anything, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to share these awesome ab workouts with you. So, I took my Iphone and headed up to my gym with Jess to give you 3 different ab workouts of 3 different difficulties to change up your routine.
1. The first exercise is fairly straightforward, but hurts a lot more than it looks. (to be fair they all hurt a lot more than Jess makes them look.)
As you can see, she is keeping her legs straight and almost folding in half. She’s lifting her upper and lower body. Don’t worry if you can’t go as far as she can. Just keep your legs straight and try to lift your upper body as much as possible. Continue to push yourself, and strive to do as many as you can. If it’s easy, you’re not lifting high enough.
2. This is the second exercise that includes a bit of an upper body work out as well.
Make sure to keep your arms perpendicular to the ground, your back straight and pull in as far as you can.
3. This final exercise is a doozy. Basically fold yourself in half and then do a pushup. NBD.
This is great for flexibility as well as abs and upper body. Keep your legs straight and your back. Again, keep in mind that this is a difficult move and it’s okay if you can’t do it to the same degree. Work up to it and you’ll start to feel stronger and look great in no time!
